Replacement Gasket Installation Tips.
Replacing a gasket on a drum lid should be easy, and sometimes it is. The challenge is that there are dozens of different drum manufactures, and their lids are all a little different. The square cut gaskets are generally easier to install than the profile gaskets. Before starting you will need:
- Drum lid
- New gasket
- Silicone. We use Silicone available at any auto parts store.
- Stuff to clean up any stray silicone.
First, remove old gasket and any residual glue. Second, test fit the gasket in the lid. Third, apply a very thin bead of silicone in the lid. Place the gasket in lid, and place the lid on the drum. At this point you can lightly tighten the lid, or you can place a wieght on the lid. It is very important to not over tighten the lid. Let the silicone setup for the prescribed amout of time your silicone product requires.
